I had the pleasure of visiting Bill’s Restaurant Manchester to try their Veganuary/Vegetarian menu. Not being vegan or vegetarian I didn’t get my hopes up; however, I was pleasantly surprised.
For Bill’s restaurant starters, I went with the Crumbed Halloumi Sticks (£5.95) which was great. With halloumi, you tend to get what you expect, and I was happy overall. Fortunately, my friend let me try some of his Vegan Duck Salad (£5.75) (I think most people went for this. If it were the other way around, I can’t say I would have done the same…
‘Vegan duck with chilli, coriander, spring onion, cucumber, carrots, cabbage and baby gem tossed in a miso dressing with sesame seeds and lime.’
I was shocked at how good this dish was; it tasted exactly like the Chinese style duck packed full of flavour. If you did a blind tasting, the only difference would be the texture of the food! If you are Vegan, definitely head down to Bills just for this dish. I had to give it 10/10.
For Bill’s restaurant mains, I tried the Moving Mountains Burger (£11.25): ‘Lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayo on a bun served with fries and vegan cheese.’
No complaints really, I would prefer a regular burger, but I can appreciate that for a vegetarian or vegan, this burger is still banging.
For dessert, there were only a couple of options, sorbet or Chocolate Fondant (£6.50). Can you even class sorbet as a dessert? My choice was made for me, and I wasn’t disappointed. Tasty and incredibly indulgent, the only thing I would change is the coconut ice cream only because I dislike coconut.
Overall the food we had was exceptional and priced well. Usually, I am a very fussy eater, but I enjoyed the meal, and if you are vegan or vegetarian you have to try the menu!
