The Allotment Bar & Restaurant is a quaint eatery themed as an allotment. Their premise is to offer customers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This is apparent from as soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is relaxed and quirky, making you feel incredibly comfortable.
They specialise in offering a playful twist on traditional British Cuisine and pride themselves in only using local suppliers which ensures all dishes are seasonal, sustainable and fresh.
Besides the unique venue, the restaurant also hosts a bar that has an extensive list of over 70 Gins! You won’t be disappointed when visiting for food or just a drink.
Mini Chicken Kebabs / 6.95
The chicken was cooked perfectly; crispy on the outside and tender in the middle. However, it would have benefited from a bit more spice for me personally. The yogurt dip worked well.
Cod cheek sliders (f)(m)(e)(sd) / 6.00
These sliders were brilliant, three beautifully bitesize pieces of cod, cooked well on a soft and fluffy brioche bun! What’s not to like here? The tartar sauce this was served with was fantastic and really brought the whole dish together. This dish would be perfect for sharing and one I would definitely try if you are visiting!
Deep fried cauliflower burger (ve) / 11.95
Being a big meat eater, I was a bit apprehensive when I chose this main. Oh, boy was I pleasantly surprised. The buttermilk fried cauliflower was cooked amazingly well, spiced perfectly and tasted incredible. This combined with the pulled cajun spiced jackfruit and their chilli jam made for a delicious treat.
By this point, I was pretty full already, and it killed me to leave anything on the plate. Hands down, this was the best ‘non-meat’ burger I have ever tasted, arguably better than a lot of meat alternatives too!
I honestly recommend you visit for this dish alone…
Dark chocolate & salted caramel fondant (e)(m)(v) / 5.50
What you want from fondant is a light, fluffy cake surrounding a gooey molten centre. This definitely matched that. The cake was rich and decadent. The molten salted caramel oozed out of the cake beautifully, with the addition of the Vanilla mascarpone working perfectly.
Recommendation
Overall the visit to The Allotment Bar & Restaurant was great, the staff and venue were perfect. I highly recommend you visit the allotment to try their food and gin as soon as possible.
